The science of healing involving diagnosis and treatment is called ‘Medicine’. The WHO (World Health Organization) terms Medicine as “The sum total of knowledge, skills, and practices based on the theories, beliefs, and experiences indigenous to different cultures, whether explicable or not, used in the maintenance of health as well as in the prevention, diagnosis, improvement or treatment of physical and mental illness. Hippocrates is considered as the Father of Modern Medicine.
The field of ‘Medicine’ is an enormous field. It has two fields which are traditional – homeopathic or holistic and Modern Medicine – Allopathic or western. For a student to pursue MBBS or become a Doctor, he/she has to study the twelfth with Biology, Physics and Chemistry as majors before applying for any state or national level entrance examinations.
